steirischer herbst ’19

steirischer herbst '19 ended on 19 October. 35 commissioned productions by more than 40 artists and artist collectives formed a densely woven narrative on the theme of Grand Hotel Abyss.

Aside from the core program, the festival was accompanied by a rich Parallel Program composed mainly of local institutions as well as by musikprotokoll and STUBENrein—both festivals within the festival.

We wholeheartedly thank all participants of steirischer herbst ’19.

steirischer herbst ’20 will take place from 24 September to 18 October.

A pleasant apocalypse

The title of the core program of steirischer herbst ’19 is Grand Hotel Abyss—a striking metaphor used by philosopher Georg Lukács to describe the European intellectual and cultural scene as it faced the approach of fascism.
