The 58th edition of steirischer herbst returned to the festival’s antifascist roots. Its starting point was the satirical play Nie wieder Friede (1934–36) by the German-Jewish writer Ernst Toller.

Never Again Peace

The exhibition of Never Again Peace invited the audience to discover manifold stories about a polarized society at Graz’s former Bauer distillery. Performances, discussions, the herbst cabaret, and further events were part of the program as well.

Exhibition opening, 19.9.

On the second day of the festival, the exhibition at the BAU opened. Across several floors, there were numerous newly commissioned works to discover. In addition, performances and concerts qere scheduled especially for the vernissage—followed by a DJ evening at the herbstcafé.

The former distillery Bauer in Graz

herbst peace talks

In keeping with the title and the current global situation, this year’s steirischer herbst hosted peace talks. Two participants questioned each other on their positions. Afterward, the audience voted on whether collective progress had been made.

Music as rule-breaking: ORF musikprotokoll 2025 questioned musical and perceptual orders. What can music be today? Numerous commissions to contemporary musicians showed different ways of dealing with rules and expectations.

Partner Program

As always, the festival program of steirischer herbst was accompanied by a rich and varied Partner Program presented by local cultural institutions and artists. Twenty-three projects in Graz and Styria were part of this year’s festival.
