The cooperation with the University of Graz’s Department for Music and Art, which has existed since 2022, was continued this year. Students visited steirischer herbst, and following the festival, curators Gábor Thury and Pieternel Vermoortel gave lectures on this edition at the university.

Performance and theater

Gábor Thury has been curator for performing arts at steirischer herbst since fall 2022. In his lecture, he talks about the past edition Humans and Demons, highlighting performative projects such as those by Michael Portnoy, Lulu Obermayer, Adrienn Hód / HODWORKS, and Giacomo Veronesi. Thury outlines the development and elaboration of concepts with the artists, thus providing an insight into the curatorial processes.

Visual arts

Pieternel Vermoortel has been senior curator for visual arts at steirischer herbst since early 2023. In her lecture, she talks about the past edition Humans and Demons, highlighting visual arts projects by Lucile Desamory, Maria Loboda, Georg Haberler and the duo Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys, among others. Vermoortel outlines the development and elaboration of concepts with the artists as well as the general context of steirischer herbst to provide an insight into the curatorial processes of the entire festival.
