About

The Landhaus contains Graz’s most representative inner courtyard, featuring three floors of arcaded walkways, Tuscan columns, and a fountain with delicate Mannerist bronze-cast decorations. The Landhaus itself is one of the most prominent Renaissance buildings in Central Europe and the crown jewel of architect Domenico dell’Allio’s oeuvre. The building was commissioned as a deliberate counterpoint to the Burg in Graz by the protestant Landstände, representatives in the state of Styria who were later brutally driven out during the Counter-Reformation. Today both the Burg and the Landhaus are home to the regional government.
