About

There is no shortage of flamboyant Baroque spaces in Graz, but one of the most sumptuous examples is located in a former refectory. The Großer Minoritensaal at the Minoritenkloster (Monastery of the Friars Minor) comes as a surprise for those coming from the busy parking lot of the still existing monastery. Built between 1691 and 1732 by Joachim Carlone, it features a monumental painting by Johann Baptist Raunacher depicting the Feeding of the Five Thousand (1732), a biblical miracle during which Jesus was able to feed a multitude using only five loaves of bread and two small fish. The multitudes of our days are “nourished” here by classical concerts and other cultural events.
