Three mysterious, amorphous beings, embedded in a dense babble of voices, invite the audience to reflect on cross-species communication. Space04 at Kunsthaus Graz is their speculative world, a utopia in which different life forms—organic, technological, and hybrid ones—coexist peacefully. The beings serve as both a blank slate and a mirror, particularly when their colorful and multifaceted skins visibly fade while biodiversity simultaneously dwindles. Then the voices filling the room, which were just moments ago spreading hope, seem to coalesce into a lament echoing from the future into our present.

With Moreth Anhuman H1N4, Anke Eckardt raises a multitude of questions: What is a voice, what is language, what is music? Who decides what counts as thought? And where does the concept of self-realization lead us when we imagine a world no longer dominated by humans? The presentation is Eckardt’s inaugural lecture at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
