In this program, PHACE explores how memory, perception, and technology are interdependent. Alexander Schubert is one of the most influential voices in the field of artificial intelligence in music. In AUTO FICTION, the German composer combines autobiographical material with AI procedures that expand the archive of his memories as a sort of “collective unconscious” of cultural data.
Injuries transform a tree’s wood into valuable burl wood. In his piece Maserholz (Burl Wood), the Polish composer Rafał Ryterski explores how traumatic experiences are inscribed in the body. Ryterski drew significant inspiration for this work from an ORF musikprotokoll excursion to the European research center CERN. South Tyrolean composer Manuela Kerer draws on historical models of astronomy and, in epicyclic noise, has tonal movements circle an imaginary center. In Échos éloquents, Christoph Renhart unfolds a game of reflection and reverberation.
