A Parable for Endings and Beginnings We Don’t Know Yet, Part 2: The Colossal Land Animal

The exhibition is part of a series focusing on mythological creatures that appear across different eras and cultures. They accompany transformation, challenge the familiar, and can encourage us to embrace uncertainty and change. The series is inspired by a lecture by the philosopher Báyò Akómoláfé.

The second part focuses on a creature that appears in mythological narratives as a colossal land animal. In Akómoláfé’s work, it is Behemoth who leads us through landscapes, to infrastructures, into bodies, and into the dense entanglements of human and nonhuman relationships.

The artworks in the exhibition navigate between heaviness and transformation, between grounding and oversaturation, as well as between order and carnivalesque dissolution. The land animal is conceived as a catalyst for pressure, inertia, and resistance, from which other forms of relation, action, and perception can be derived.
