In her photographic installations, Valérie Jouve embarks on an anthropological journey through a space where human beings, architecture, and nature become equally important as markers of identity. They enter into a dialogue that leads to specific narrative forms. For her exhibition at Camera Austria, the artist has created a precise dramaturgy in which photos are presented in various dimensions, materializations, and overlapping arrangements.

Whether it is rural existence in France, urban environments, or life in Palestine, Jouve observes hybrid forms of community and how they relate to their surroundings. The photographs are laid out to form stark contrasts, highlighting the personalities of their subjects. There are subtle remarks on the names of those whose portraits are embedded within an overall pattern of visual representation. By combining landscape with portraiture, the artist creates visual realms beyond the notion of reportage, producing new lines of sight and points of view.
