UNDER-MINING

Exhibition

The earth’s core lies about six thousand kilometers below us. Its sheer existence and the question of its makeup have long been sites of human projection and speculation; they continue to test the limits of our visual, acoustic, and existential imagination. UNDER-MINING digs into and around past and present concepts of Allmende (the commons) and appropriation, excavating porous and manifest undergrounds and psychoacoustic landscapes. Here, historical hypotheses and contemporary debates about the layers beneath us are undermined, their contours redrawn. UNDER-MINING claws its way through (un)extracted earth and diverse conglomerates, oscillating between the visible and audible, life and death, temporality and materiality.
