In a neglected historical building, geology, narratives of the past, and visions of the future merge into a symbiotic present. This year, archaeological research was carried out in the former hairdressing salon at Michaeligasse 10. In addition to more recent traces—such as an all-encompassing black layer dating to the town fire of 1715 and the foundations of a medieval kiln—much older layers also came to light: the fossilized sandy beach of a primeval sea.
This beach not only forms the material foundation of the house, but also the metaphorical foundation of the intellectual movement to which Haus Lebt 2025 belongs. Deep geological layers open up new spaces for thinking about time, continuity, and change and send visitors on a nonlinear journey through the layers of time, brushing history against the grain.
