STRANCI – vom Fremdsein (Of Being a Stranger)
Exhibition
Mladen Bundalo, Why Do You Want to Marry? (2025), video still, courtesy of the artist
The exhibition unites artworks and artifacts related to Bosnia and Herzegovina through which the concept of the “stranger” can be identified, extracted, and elaborated in its legal, political, social, and cultural dimensions. In one place, it assembles works that explore this notion from perspectives such as that of the refugee or migrant experience, highlighting its ambivalence through concepts such as identity, statelessness, or displacement.
Viewed this way, the exhibits give a voice to those who are not easily legally categorized and who express a particular attitude through their varying sociopolitical statuses. A special focus is on counterpolitical voices provoked by exile, migration, and unresolved citizenship.
