Milica Tomić’s solo exhibition On Love Afterwards allows us to actively engage with urgent questions of courage, memory, political violence, and social asymmetries. The exhibition’s title deliberately introduces the concept of love, which at first glance hardly fits works about resistance, political crimes, and war. Love in this context functions as an antipode: it reveals courage and solidarity and is accompanied by an attempt to find a new language, another way of thinking about those difficult topics as well as historical and recent events that mark the present moment.
On Love Afterwards presents Milica Tomić’s thirty-year practice in its entirety, including a selection of works that are expanded and complemented by archival material. The fluid boundary between artistic work and research is reflected in the exhibition architecture.
Some works were produced in cooperation with the 13th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art.
