It has always been important to musikprotokoll to place Austrian music-making in an international context. Over the decades, a dense network of relationships has developed that points in many directions and grows a little larger with each passing year. An important hub for exciting new projects in the fields of music and audiovisual art is the SHAPE+ platform, which was founded in 2014 by sixteen members of the ICAS – International Cities of Advanced Sound festival network. One of these was musikprotokoll.

This year, we once again host artists who have been recommended to us by our partner festivals. SHAPE+ gives us a direct insight into the latest developments in many European scenes. In addition, SHAPE+ artists nominated for two 2024/2025 residencies create new works with two Austrian artists revolving around the festival title: Spaces of Freedom.
