Xenia Koghilaki

Moshing is a hardcore dance style in which bodies push against and collide with one another. Xenia Koghilaki explores this subculture in her choreography, showcasing the confrontation, energy, and cooperation between bodies moving jointly. The three dancers bring the practices of the mosh pit to the stage, oscillating between anger and gentleness, roughness and trust, pain and tenderness. They view these concepts not as opposites but as interconnected elements.

For the exhibition opening, Koghilaki transforms the outdoor space of the former restaurant on Griesplatz. As a powerful, sweaty ritual, Slamming Unplugged intervenes in the venue’s (sonic) surroundings and seeks pleasure in rebellion.

Xenia Koghilaki (1990, Athens, Greece) is a dancer and choreographer. Her practice explores the aesthetic, political, and social dimensions of the moving body. Her work has been presented internationally at venues and festivals such as Tanztage Berlin; Onassis Stegi, Athens; Sophiensæle, Berlin; ImPulsTanz, Vienna; OKTOBERDANS, Bergen; Santarcangelo Festival; and Kalamata International Dance Festival. As a dancer, she has worked with Kat Válastur, Chto Delat, and the Hellenic Dance Company. Koghilaki has been a DanceWEB Scholar and an ARTWORKS–SNF Fellow. She lives in Athens and Berlin.
