Great American Poems (2025)

Donald Trump is trashing social and educational programs based on keywords of an irritatingly “woke” rhetoric. Often, the results are tragicomic, with science projects canceled because their title contains the word diversity. In Styria, too, the culture wars are raging: in legal texts, gender-neutral language has been banned. The artist duo zweintopf greets BAU visitors with a facade installation referring to such developments. It reassembles phrases recently banished from US public discourse into absurd combinations. Are these slogans for some utopian, hard-to-imagine improvement to the world or parodies of such efforts? zweintopf leaves this decision up to viewers.

zweintopf (founded in 2006, Graz) is an artist duo consisting of Eva Pichler (1981, Judenburg, Austria) and Gerhard Pichler (1980, Friesach, Austria). They work on a “poetry of trivial things” and—next to site-specific installations, objects, and videos—develop ideas that are realized as art in public space or in the form of unannounced interventions. Recent solo exhibitions took place at SPARK Art Fair, Vienna (2025); Raum für Fotografie, Klagenfurt (2024); QL-Galerie, Graz (2024); and Kunsthalle Feldbach (2024). The duo lives in Feldbach.
