Angélique Aubrit & Ludovic Beillard

Besser ein gesunder Esel als ein krankes Pferd (Better a Healthy Donkey Than a Sick Horse, 2025)

A ruined banker, a twelve-year-old vagrant, and three weasels sit in adjacent office rooms and talk. Capitalism has ended, money plays no role anymore, and artificial intelligence controls everything, but the banker still wants to save the system. Angélique Aubrit & Ludovic Beillard’s protagonists—larger-than-life puppets—are constant companions in their work. The duo builds environments for them and activates the puppets in burlesque, absurdist narratives scripted as one ongoing film-in-progress. Their characters represent minorities often stuck in impossible communicative situations, thus reflecting the relations of domination and (dis)order at work today.

Angélique Aubrit (1988, Angoulême, France) and Ludovic Beillard (1982, Bordeaux, France) have been exhibiting together as an artist duo since 2017. They have had solo exhibitions at Galerie Valeria Cetraro, Paris (2025 and 2022); MeetFactory, Prague (2024); Kunstverein Bielefeld (2023); La Tôlerie, Clermont-Ferrand (2021); and Lindre-Basse Residency – Centre d’art contemporain la synagogue de Delme (2021), among others. The duo has also participated in group exhibitions at Le 19, Centre régional d’art contemporain, Montbéliard (2022), and other institutions. Aubrit lives in Brussels and Beillard in Bordeaux.
